How to check a solar installer
An installer check should establish identity, current programme status, who performs the work and who remains responsible after installation. A directory result is one data point, not a complete quality judgement.
Check the live SEDA directory
Search the provider’s legal name, not only its trading name. The SEDA listing page expressly says that the directory is a contact listing and does not constitute a recommendation, recognition or affiliation. Solar Cue therefore does not describe listed providers as “SEDA-approved”.
Match the contracting party
The company named on the proposal, invoice, application and warranty should be clear. If sales, installation and programme submission involve different companies, ask for each party’s role and responsibility in writing.
Ask for evidence you can retain
Do not rely on badges, social-media claims or a salesperson’s verbal assurance when the underlying record can be checked directly.
- Current directory entry and legal company details.
- Named person responsible for system design and submission.
- Recent comparable references that you can independently contact.
- Written scope, model numbers, drawings and exclusions.
- Workmanship and roof-leak process.
- Handover documents, monitoring access and after-sales contact.
