Why the bill matters

Solar generation is only half the calculation.

When electricity is used affects the value of the system. Direct daytime use and exported surplus are treated differently.

Use directly

Solar serves demand at the premise first.

Electricity used while the system is generating can reduce grid imports. A monthly bill total does not show this timing by itself.

Export carefully

Surplus is subject to programme rules.

Credits are not cash, do not carry forward under the current Solar ATAP guideline and do not offset every bill component.

For owner-operated SMEs

Business solar needs a different model.

Maximum demand, operating hours, export value, roof tenure, financing and tax position all require separate treatment.

  • Review interval demand, not only monthly totals.
  • Separate self-consumption from exports at Average SMP.
  • Version every tariff and programme assumption.
  • Have incentive eligibility reviewed professionally.
